Did we mention that it was raining?  Alot of rain and flooding while we were in Houston. The convention center is under construction, so that created some additional issues.

Our exhibit was a long a skinny pipe and drape configuration.  Our favorite so far. You could see the more of the quilts on the wall with this set up. Quilts, Inc did a fabulous job hanging our exhibit.

There were four large round tables in the room in the Hilton dining room - a private room.  Chairs were on half of the table for seating, so we could all see each other, and move around the room.  Major book signing of each others books.

Artist Profile Series

Call for Entry - What's for Dinner?

We are happy to tell you that the What's for Dinner? exhibit will continue into 2014. The entire scoop is here

All quilts must be uniform in size, horizontal format, with nothing hanging off the sides, top, or bottom. The finished quilt size, or “place setting,” must be 24” x 15” (width x height) and cannot exceed 2" in depth. Please, no metal silverware attached. Artist Statements should explain your piece, the meal, and the meaning behind it. Artist Statements may be edited for clarity and length. Be sure to select “quilt” when asked for the category.

We’re also adding a new category this year: 3-D fabric table decorations! Make display items for the table - think bottles of wine, pitchers of “water,” vases with flowers, serving bowls with ladles, cream and sugar bowls, or salt and pepper shakers. Items should be true to life-size so that everything is approximately the same scale, i.e., nothing smaller than 4” and nothing taller than 24”. Artist Statements should explain your piece and the meaning behind it. Artist Statements may be edited for clarity and length. Be sure to select “décor” when asked for the category.

Completed submissions with visuals must be received online by Friday, July 11, 2014. You will be notified no later than Friday, August 1, 2014, regarding the piece(s) to be included in this exhibit along with shipping instructions. If selected, the quilts will need to arrive in Houston no later than Friday, September 5, 2014. Quilts will be returned by the end of December 2014 if quilt does not travel, or arrangements may be made to have your piece(s) picked up at the conclusion of the show. If you agree to allow your piece(s) to travel, your quilt will be returned by the end of August 2015.

The Dinner at Eight Artists Dinner

At each festival  Jamie and I schedule an Artists' Dinner during the event if there is a Dinner At Eight exhibition hanging.  It is a way of celebrating the group and it is an opportunity for all of us to become acquainted (or better acquainted!).  The Houston event was moved to a new restaurant since our beloved Spencer's is closed.  Despite the noisy environment a good time was had by all.  Here are a few photographs of the evening.  Enjoy!

We dined at the Grove, which is in the park across the street from the convention center and the Hilton Americas.  Book signing is taking place here.  They originally told us that we could have one long table, but in the end divided us into two tables.  The restaurant was very dark.  Next year, a new location.  We had a great time in spite of the pitfalls.

We had the same configuration as Festival in Long Beach, except for the fact, that it was turned around to take up less real estate.  Right on Main Street, the d@8 sign was the first portion that attendees could see

Great location on the show floor!  Right across from the SAQA gallery, and next to What's for Dinner, that was across from the very popular Pet Postcards.  Prime area!

Seeing our exhibit from afar.  It was stunning, to say the least.  When Quilt Festival opened, there were many people around this exhibit at even given time.  We were both so pleased by the responses that we received.  Yay, for the artists!
