Artist Profile: Anne Hammond

Anne Hammond

1. What is sitting on the edges of your work table? Rulers, seam ripper and fabric

2. If someone looked beneath the surface, what could be revealed that we might not know about you?  I was born in Denmark and moved here after I met my American husband. My quilts seems to reflect more of my Danish roots, as I explore into my artist life. More shapes looking like Viking Boats or Dolmens( ancient grave sites with large stones). Water, high sky, midnight sun, winter Solstice and storms.

3. What occupies the space between your sewing machine and your cutting table? Mountains of fabric

4. What is the most exquisite moment in your artistic life? Winning First Place in Abstract Large category in 2017

5. Do you have daily rituals in your studio? No

6. Reflecting on the quilts that you have made, which one stands out to you? A new one called Motherhood. My series of Lines Of Communication also stands out.

7. What do you have an affinity for in your work? Colors. I like to use unusual color pairings.

8. What kinds of patterns do you use in your work to create interest and texture? Color, shape and line.

9. What personal iconography is identifiable to you exclusively in your work?  I have worked with line for a while but are now moving into working with shapes and how they relate to each other.

10. What was your inspiration for the Best of Dinner at Eight? I took a David Hornung class on Design and made this juxtaposition; circle on top and straight lines on the bottom, and wanted to explore that more. I was making this quilt during a storm at my beach house, and convinced my self to stay calm, since the foundation of the house is strong; that I would be fine. Of course it also relates to how I feel about our current political climate and the need to remind my self, the foundation of is country is strong and we can out ride this storm too.
